The Tax Collector is elected for a three-year term; the Deputy Tax Collector is chosen by the Tax Collector with the approval of the Board of Selectmen.
The Tax Collector is also a Notary Public and a Justice of the Peace. These services are provided free of charge to Danville residents.
Purpose
The Tax Collector is responsible for collecting all taxes due to the Town of Danville.
Property Taxes
Property taxes are billed semi-annually and are mailed to the owner of record each spring and fall. Taxes paid after the due date are penalized 12% per annum, pro-rated on a daily rate.
This tax includes School, Town, State and County taxes. The Department of Revenue
Administration sets the tax rate in October - November of each year with the new tax rate effective with the fall payment.
Other Taxes
The Tax Collector's office also collects taxes for current use, yield, excavation and gravel taxes. Please call the Tax Collector with any questions you may have with these taxes. They are very specific and apply to relatively few properties.
Property Tax Exemptions
The Town of Danville does allow various exemptions in order to lessen the impact of property taxes. These exemptions include an elderly exemption, a blind exemption, veterans exemption and disabled tax deferral exemption. Please call the Tax Collector for further information.
