Others Present: Janet Denison-clerk
The meeting began at 7:30pm and was televised. Dave Knight was designated a voting member for tonight’s meeting in place of Bill. It was noted that there was no meeting on May 28th due to a lack of a quorum.
I. Discussion with Rob Collins
Mr. Collins was invited to tonight’s meeting to discuss the Heritage Commission website. It was noted that there are portions of the site which still say “coming soon.” Mr. Collins was given some disks and additional information with which to update several links that are outdated. He was also asked to add some articles and place the new historic sites brochure on the website. He said he still has the information from the scouts for the Kid’s Korner section. He mentioned that the website committee has asked about adding a link from the 250th site to the town website. He suggested adding a direct link from the 250th website to the Heritage Commission portion of the town website.
II. Minutes
The May 12th minutes were reviewed. Russ moved and Dave seconded a motion to approve the minutes of April 28, 2010 as submitted. John abstained. The motion passed.
III. Correspondence
IV. Beehive Hut and Trail
Carol was recently asked by the Duchene family to sign off on the clean-up project. She reported that the work looks very good. The fence has fallen over around the beehive hut, as well as the signs. The signs have been propped up against the stonework.
Dave said a project for next year could be to have the elementary school students write reports on what they think was the purpose of the beehive hut.
V. Stagecoach Stop
The Mooseplate grant work timeline was discussed. The sill has been dropped off at the building. Bob Pothier has been asked to submit a bill for the items he has purchased to date. A narrative of what work has been done so far needs to be submitted at the six-month mark. Carol expressed her hope to include a bill from Mr. Pothier to illustrate this. Mr. Pothier informed the Commission that most of the work is outside and this work can’t be done in the rain.
He would also like to run a generator but expressed concern for disturbing the Marzec family. A courtesy call to the Marzec’s will be made stating that they may hear a generator run while work is being done.
When the work is done, photographs and a financial report will need to be submitted to the Mooseplate people, then they have 30 days to send the remainder of the money after they grant their final approval.
The LCHIP grant was awarded in January and Mr. Pothier has been contacted about a timeline of the work to be done with these funds. It was decided that it will be noted on the paperwork that the work will be done by First Period Colonial. This is a matching grant; the heritage fund will have to tapped in order to meet the scope of work to be done. There will be some work left undone; a Mooseplate grant could be applied for next year to cover the costs.
Mr. Pothier has informed the Commission that the Stagecoach stop will be open for people to walk through by the 250th celebration on August 21st and 22nd.
The landscaping was discussed briefly. The members were asked to visit the site and have recommendations for what work could be done before the 250th weekend.
At 8:23pm Dave moved and Russ seconded a motion to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously.
Respectfully,
Janet S. Denison-clerk
