CONSERVATION COMMISSION

MINUTES OF JUNE 15TH, 2006

 

 

Present: Chris Giordano (Chairperson), Judy Jervis, Sheila Johannesen, Ron Comeau and Jason Holder

 

Others Present: Brittany Brown, Belinda Brown, Christa Corey, Adam Corey, Jess Riley, Kitty Riley, Faith Riley, Paul Riley Jr., Sherry Riley, Stephen Longbook, Bereridda Longbook, Samuel Longbook, Tricia Longbook, Sandra Post, Philip Emilio III, and Sam Longbook.

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:30PM and was televised.

 

 

1.      Presentation of Awards-  Chris presented the awards on behalf of the Conservation Commission.  The first place went to Joshua Riley, the blue heron drawing.  Second place went to Adam Corey, The Little Red Schoolhouse drawing.  Awards also were given to Stephen Longbook, a drawing of a forest.  And Britney Brown, a drawing of Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The first and second place were awarded a letter of appreciation, signed by all the members of the Conservation Commission and their finished tree tag drawing inside a frame. All were awarded a $25.00 Wal-Mart gift certificate from the Conservation Commission members.  Ron also expressed his congratulations to the group.  Sheila took some pictures and the Conservation Commission will do an article in the newspaper.

 

 

2.      Minutes of June 1, 2006- Judy made a motion to accept the minutes as written.  Sheila 2nd the motion.  The vote was unanimous except for Ron who abstained.

 

 

3.      Follow-up Complaints- Chris asked if any of the members had a chance to follow up on these complaints? 

  1. Corner of Long Pond Rd cutting of trees in and around the wetlands-  Chris said that it appeared to be a weekend project for the homeowner, and that he was expanding his yard.  Some slash was there but Chris felt that it was a work in progress still.
  2. Kingston Rd by the power lines next to the storage sheds- Chris said that there were some cutting of trees and stumping.  He suggested that a silt fence be placed to protect the wetlands to the owner.

 

4.      Easement Update-  Judy said that she received the minutes of April 20th Audubon meeting that Sheila, Dave Knight and she attended.  The Commission read the minutes and a discussion followed.  The Commission will be holding a joint meeting on July 20th with NH Audubon.  Judy will also ask when NH Audubon will be holding their next meeting.

 

 

5.      Summer Schedule-Chris asked if the Commission would like to go on a summer schedule.  The Commission discussed a summer schedule and will be meeting once a month for July and August on the 3rd Thursday of the month. September was also up for a discussion for one meeting, it was decided that it would be discussed again at another meeting.

            The July 20th joint meeting the Commission will meet 6:30PM to review as members their easement suggestions, prior to the joint meeting at 7:30PM.

 

6.      Correspondence-

a.       Tree Tag Bill-  ($259.38 for a total of 262 tree tags)  The tree tags will be placed every 25feet and be four feet off the ground, aluminum nails will be used.  Chris submitted the bill for payment to be made.

b.      Terra Realty Trust Letter- Sheila said she had followed up on this letter before the meeting.  Letter will be placed in the file.

c.       Land Trust Alliance- Conference Rally 2006

 

7.      Election of Officers-

Chairperson-  Judy made a motion to nominate Chris as Chairperson.  Sheila 2nd the motion.  The vote was unanimous.

Vice-Chairperson- Sheila made a motion to nominate Judy as Vice Chairperson.  Ron 2nd the motion.  The vote was unanimous.

 

8.      Survey Update- Judy asked if Chris had any update on the survey?  Chris said that he had none, but it was almost completed.

 

 

9.      Non-Public-Judy stated that since the discussion will involve consideration of potential land purchase. Which, if discussed in public, might benefit a party whose interests are adverse to those of the general community, RSA 91-A:31II (d) should warrant a non-public session.  Sheila 2nd the motion.  A role call by Chris as follows: Sheila responded yes, Ron responded yes, Jason responded yes, Judy responded yes, Chris responded yes.  The vote was unanimous.  Judy made a motion to adjourn the public meeting and move to a non-public meeting.  Jason 2nd the motion.  The vote was unanimous.

 

Jason made a motion to adjourn.  Judy 2nd the motion.  The vote was unanimous and the meeting adjourned at 9:15PM.
