UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE THE CONSERVATION COMMISSION WILL MEET AT TOWN HALL ON THE FIRST
AND THIRD THURSDAYS OF EACH MONTH AT 7:30 PM.
What's happened recently?
- With the 100% Use Change Tax we receive (voted in by you, the townspeople), your
Conservation Commission has purchased sizeable parcels of land for conservation
and preservation.
- Recently we have purchased a 20-acre parcel abutting our Town Forest.
- We have put in place "Do Not Cut" buffer signs and marked "Open Space" areas in
our Town Forest.
The Conservation Commission held a logo contest in which all Danville children could
participate. The winners have their logos on the signs you see in our town forest.
- We have had 2 of a 3-part wetland inventory done. These inventories are extremely
important in monitoring the health of our wetlands and ensure better preservation
of same.
Our goal is to designate prime wetlands.
Did you know that wetlands provide the most important natural water filtration system
in our environment? Please do not alter any wetland area. It harms the environment
and IT'S AGAINST THE LAW in New Hampshire.
- We have a Conservation Easement in progress for our 476 +/- acres Town Forest through
the Audubon Society. This will ensure proper care and maintenance of our forest.
What's in the future?
- Conservation is excited to announce that potential Eagle Scout, David Phillips,
will be working on an orienteering course in the Town Forest. There will be 3 trails,
small, medium and large to orienteer. David envisions a "How To" sign to instruct
hikers how to use a compass on these paths. In addition to the "How To" sign David
would like to add a picnic table or seating where hikers could plan their course.
What a great addition to our Town Forest activities! Thank you, David!
- We will be working with NH Cooperative Extension to do a wildlife inventory of the
Town Forest.
Other things you should know...
We are always looking to purchase parcels of land. We do this with money in our
budget along with grants available to us.
You may have some land that you would like to see as conservation land. Did you
